Lost of a friend
Why he had to go I do not know
why we couldn't say bye I do not know
why did this happen I do not know
what I do know is we need to live life
say I love you to the ones we love
do not go to bed angry
you never know when it will be the last time
share your kindness and love with the world
Be a light in this darkness
shine to as bright as you can
there is more to this life than yourself.
we Love you Tony.......
why we couldn't say bye I do not know
why did this happen I do not know
what I do know is we need to live life
say I love you to the ones we love
do not go to bed angry
you never know when it will be the last time

The Beautiful Changes
One wading a Fall meadow finds on all sides
The Queen Anne’s Lace lying like lilies On water; it glides So from the walker, it turns Dry grass to a lake, as the slightest shade of you Valleys my mind in fabulous blue Lucernes. The beautiful changes as a forest is changed By a chameleon’s tuning his skin to it; As a mantis, arranged On a green leaf, grows Into it, makes the leaf leafier, and proves Any greenness is deeper than anyone knows. Your hands hold roses always in a way that says They are not only yours; the beautiful changes In such kind ways, Wishing ever to sunder Things and things’ selves for a second finding, to lose For a moment all that it touches back to wonder. |
Another Year Here We Go.....
Students welcome back to school. For some of you this is your first year of high school so welcome. My advice to your first year would be to get involved in activities, it helps to make the days go faster. For our students that are in the second year the school is a place for you to learn and become a better person so, make the most of the time. For everyone else you are the example don't forget the freshmen are looking at you for your leadership in this school. Show them your school spirit and how to act in school. Be at the events and show up for fun events. This is your time to make the best of it. And one more word of wisdom remember you can not change the past but the future is not yet set it is what you make of it. Best of luck this year you got this.
What can the incoming Seniors learn from the out going seniors?
By: Steve, Sydney, Angel, Melissa, & Rosa
Dear upcoming Seniors,
First of all, congratulations for making it this far. High school is not exactly an easy path to take. Some of you may know those who have left and given up. However, you all are still here. You have got one more year left ahead of you. Now, I wish I could say that I could present you with some sort of magic bullet that will get you through your senior year easily. Unfortunately, I can not do that. I do not mean to scare you, but this final year will most likely be your hardest one yet. Why? Well, simply put, you are exhausted. You are tired. You are worn down and broken by every bit of high school conflict that has been thrown your way. Somewhere, within your mind, you’re probably thinking how easy it would be to give up right now. It would be easy to do that. Giving up is the easiest thing in the world. So, how are you going to do it then? I will let you in on a little secret. Senioritis is very real. From that first day of senior year, you will want to graduate already. It only gets worse day after day of a schedule loaded with filler classes and mostly useless information. Here’s the thing though. You can do it. Whether its been smooth sailing up until this point or you have been desperately trying to navigate your way through the hurricane you call your life, you can do this. If you have friends you can lean on, lean on them. If you have family you can lean on, lean on them. Don’t let that one nagging teacher or administrator get to you. Don’t let the difficulties of your life get to you. You are stronger than all of that. How do I know? You are all still here. You are all willing to make the final push, to finish the last leg of the race. My last piece of advice to you. Enjoy every single moment because this is your last year. This is the year that will be filled with many lasts. One day, you’ll be taking your last final and you’ll be going through your last annoying fire drill. You’ll go through your last pep rally having to listen to all those school chants. All those lasts will lead up to the end where you’ll be sitting in alphabetical order in that cap and gown waiting for your name to be called. Keep the end in mind. Through every bit of adversity, you have yet to face, keep the end in mind. One day, high school will be over. So, finish strong rising seniors. Finish strong

Teachers who have Been there and helped us Thank you.
Dear Ms. Swader,
You have been here for me ever since freshman year. We have become closer each year. Everyone always asked why I called you by your first name. I’m going to miss you after I graduate for High School. Because when I used to get in trouble you were always there. I will like to thank you for being a teacher and a friend to me. You always made me feel better if I was down. You were like the best friend I never had up here. Doing them word search and the morning. You always had a word search wait for me.
Thank you,
Tatyannah Hallmon

Dear Mrs. Mangrum,
four years ago you came into my life and I didn’t expect to hold you so close to my heart. We started off on a rocky start but that just made us create a bond. You have been there for me more than you can imagine. No matter how hard things get I know I can come to you. Out of all the teachers I've ever had you have helped me gain a sense of sanity. I appreciate all the things you have done for me over the years. I just wanted you to know that you have impacted my life in so many ways. You’re my school mom and that will never change. I enjoy talking to you about my life because you have never judged me. Even when you saw me getting off track you encouraged me to do better. I wouldn’t have made it through the last four years without you. Therefore, I want to say thank you. Even after I graduate, I will continue to update you on my life because you’re my right hand.
thank you,
Takara Lowe

Dear Mrs.Cox,
Even though you do not work at LaVergne High School, I want to thank you for helping me and the whole trigonometry class through hard math problems and projects. You deal with the struggle at LHS and at Motlow. With the busy schedule like yours, you printed out or projects, schedule, deals at restaurants, and notes from each chapter. You went above and beyond for the class of 2019. I was at a point when I didn’t know if I was going to graduate with my class on time. Eventually, with her help I was passing all my quizzes, homework, and exams. Mrs.Cox not only helped with trigonometry, but also helped speak success into my life. I am now graduation on May 19th, 2019, with the class of 2019. Your work and determination will never go unnoticed.
Sincerely,
Journi Payton

Dear Coach Smith,
To start things off let’s just say you’re the coolest teacher around. You’re more like a close friend then anything, from the serious times to the fun times we always have a good time when we’re around you. You’re always there when we need someone to talk to and a shoulder to cry on. Even though you may not know it you’ve made an impact in our high school experience at La Vergne. We just wanted to say Thank You for everything you have done for us, even if it was just you listening to our problems. Many teachers don’t take the time out to actually listen to their students or get to know them but you do.
Sincerely,
Arryon , Ambar , Naiyah and QP.

Welcome to the lavergne High School southern style comedy
Hey Lavergne come on out and check out our school play "Southern Fried Funeral" directed by Ms Lamb and Mr Hutson on April 26-27th. What is this "southern Fried Funeral" you might ask? well I will tell you it is about a comedy about a southern family. Dewey Frye is dead and the rest of his family is left to pick up the pieces.... that is if they don't kill each other first. Not only does matriarch Dorothy have to contend with sudden widowhood but she's also faced with church committee Harpy Ozella Meeks sticking her nose in the family business, Dewey's snake-in-the-grass brother making a grab for her house, and two grown daughters reliving their childhood rivalry. Funerals bring out the worst, the best, and the funnies in people, and Fryes are no exception.

You know those days that we all look forward to? Yes that day you come for a few hours and then off you go. It is here this week Jan. 31 is Early dismissal day. Tell us what you do on early dismissal days. "On early dismissal days me and my friends like to walk down the road to see a movie. It a lot of fun because we get to hangout and there isn't anyone else in the theater. Then we go get some food at one of the fast food places before we leave and go home or to work." said one student when asked what do you do on early dismissal days. Another student said he looks forward to those days because he can get more hours at work to make bank. So email us with what you do on a early dismissal day. Hope you all have fun and stay safe.
You're A Good Man Charlie Brown!
LaVergne High school recently put on the mother of musicals, with their very own rendition of You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. The students did a fantastic job performing and building the set for the play.
Happy Halloween Wolverines! This years costumes were very creative and many people posed for pictures for Carmen Rios and Destiny Jones. Here are just some of our favorites:

The government is corrupt. Let your voice be heard!

When we vote it is for our freedom. Every vote counts, therefore your opinion makes a difference. Most people do not vote because of the lengthy registration first. But do not hide your voice just because you’re too lazy to register. Voting can get you involved in politics and make a difference for your country. Participating in voting can make your voice heard. You can even pre-register to vote at the age of 17 if you will be 18 before the next election so everything will be processed by your 18th birthday!

Wolverine History
Lavergne high school opened 1988 with, approximately, 1,723 students. Lavergne high school is one of the most diverse schools in Tennessee. Known for its excellent test scores and amazing student body. Around the time Lavergne was built A.C Puckett became mayor and served from 1980-1984. Other events include Lavergne opening its city halls and changing their style from charter to alderman. Charter governing is a legal document that defines the city and county’s laws and regulations, which is what the local government will follow. Alderman governing is electing officials to make decisions for the city as times change. (“The times they are a-changin’.” Bob Dylan.)
Building Lavergne High Has rendered many successes. For example, Smyrna High was overpopulated and in need of another school to put students in. So, Lavergne was created to split Smyrna’s population to a reasonable size. Lavergne and Smyrna are now in a very intense rivalry when it comes around to football season. Every Lavergne and Smyrna student will become very excited and competitive when it comes to any football game. Some donning body paint, glitter, colored hair spray, and bringing posters. No matter the competitive air, Smyrna and Lavergne students are still amicable around one another.
LaVergne High School is a very diverse school that has approximately 2,800 students. With a student to teacher ratio of 20:1 The school diversity is as follows: 3% Asian, 34% Black, 26% Hispanic, and 35% of White students. At the opening of Lavergne, not many students attended. Smyrna high school, currently the middle school, was the only school around at this time and was overcrowded.
La Vergne High School has changed drastically since Mr. Ash arrived; the school now provides college courses that students can take to earn college credit along with offering students visa to makeup or catch up on any work. We have more extracurricular clubs such as key club, criminal justice club, flowers sorority, and girl up club. The vending machine snacks have changed to provide candy and baked chips. The cafeteria now has iced coffee and breakfast bags that students can purchase and enjoy. About a decade ago in the ACT process, on average 13 percent of students passed and 4 percent only tested. The mathematics proficiency was at 15 percent, the reading was 25 percent, the college-ready was 1.2 percent, and the rest was untold. The student body was 51 percent male and 49 percent female. Since Mr.Ash became the principal he has made it his goal to raise the scores. He has done it and so has the students in this generation. The average proficiency now, in reading, is 36 percent, mathematics is 28 percent, and the college rating was raised to 21.1 percent. Before it was only between 60 to 70 percent that graduated compared to today’s 92 percent.

Remember the person who has never made a mistake in their life never tried anything or did anything. Do not be a victim of your circumstance but be a over comer. Summer is almost here!Blackberry-PickingBY SEAMUS HEANEYfor Philip Hobsbaum
Late August, given heavy rain and sun For a full week, the blackberries would ripen. At first, just one, a glossy purple clot Among others, red, green, hard as a knot. You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet Like thickened wine: summer's blood was in it Leaving stains upon the tongue and lust for Picking. Then red ones inked up and that hunger Sent us out with milk cans, pea tins, jam-pots Where briars scratched and wet grass bleached our boots. Round hayfields, cornfields and potato-drills We trekked and picked until the cans were full, Until the tinkling bottom had been covered With green ones, and on top big dark blobs burned Like a plate of eyes. Our hands were peppered With thorn pricks, our palms sticky as Bluebeard's. We hoarded the fresh berries in the byre. But when the bath was filled we found a fur, A rat-grey fungus, glutting on our cache. The juice was stinking too. Once off the bush The fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would turn sour. I always felt like crying. It wasn't fair That all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot. Each year I hoped they'd keep, knew they would not. A Teachers PoemBy: Sonji Newman
Dedicated to Yudjy The toughest class I've ever faced is not filled with unprepared students without paper or pencils to erase. The toughest class I've ever faced is once again a class left with the memory of a student who is no longer in his place. The toughest class I've ever faced is not with unprepared testers lacking esteem to try with grace. The toughest class I've ever faced is the one in which a precious life has been erased. Yet, I must push on to teach those who remain, pushing through my grief sharing their pain. The toughest class I've ever faced is filled with broken hearts that I must encourage to stay strong, to make this world a better place. I've learned to be strong for those tough classes I've faced because I'm the teacher who will encourage the students to continue their race, a race full of love and sometimes hate. I've must continue to teach the toughest class I've ever faced to teach them to never give up, keep pushing, you'll win, keep your pace. The toughest class I've ever faced had a student named Yudjy who's now in a better place. How do I know? I know because during class we discussed more than academic content we talked about Gods love and his grace. Teachers we live in a world that's in need of love. I understand the importance of content , but the students need to know they are loved each seems every day. Note From The Seniors Of 2018Here's some advice for the incoming freshmen:
Don't procrastinate! You’ll keep telling yourself “I’ll do it tomorrow” until it’s the morning of the day it’s due. Once you start slacking, it’s hard to catch back up. Don’t get caught up in drama! That should be the least of your worries. DON'T get caught up in the wrong crowd! Don't give yourself a bad reputation. It could follow you, and it could lead you down the wrong path. Have fun. Join clubs or play sports. Don’t get caught up on a boy or girl you really don't know what the future holds. The friends you walk into high school with may not be the same people you walk out with and that is okay. Regardless, make the best out of your freshman year because before you know it, you'll be finished with high school and you do not want to look back and say "I wish I had......". Welcome to High School. Spring Is In The Air!!!!!!!Spring is here. As we look around we see flower blooming and birds singing. Not only is spring here but spring break is too. As student and teachers get ready to relax and have time off of school we ask everyone to please have a safe break. We teachers can not wait to see you back at school Monday April 2nd. Have a great time.

AS WE GO ON.......Yudjy Cherubin We lost a friend on Monday April 30th. Yudjy was a sweet boy. He would always come to school with a smile on his face and there was never a day that he didn’t have that big smile. He was known by lots of people. He was a son, brother, cousin, nephew, boyfriend, and a friend. If anyone needed something, if Yudjy had it he’d give his all away. It’s very sad that our friend got shot over an iPhone. He had a whole life ahead of himself. Our whole school is in grief and can’t believe this really happened to such a sweet person like him. Please keep everyone at LHS and all his family in friends in your prayers. Help us remember Yudjy as he should be remembered.
Hispanic Heritage ShowMay 10th was our Hispanic heritage show. We had a great turn out and had a fantastic show and talk. If you happened to miss it do not fret; We got you covered with some highlight video below. Hope you enjoy.
