Kobe Bryant. Saying good bye to a legend
By: Journei Hill, Joi Bowers, and Eric Gomez
Kobe was an African American professional basketball player, point guard, loving husband, and father. Bryant played his entire 20 season career with the los Angeles Lakers scoring more than 33000 points! He was one of the best to ever do it; He mastered the game and raised the bar for players around the world. Kobe Bryant was known best for his work ethic and perseverance. Since his high school days, he put in crazy hours at the gym and practically breathed basketball. He used to show up at 5 a.m. and leave at 7 a.m. no matter the injury or circumstance basketball was his life. He ate, slept, and breathed basketball and it showed in his career and that is why he will forever be remembered till this day.
Koby has an abundance of memories and success throughout his career as well as his life. He is a two-time Olympic Medalist, has won 5 NBA championships, and is ranked in fourth place for the NBA’s All-Time top scorer. He announced his retirement from the basketball league on November 29, 2015, he explained that he gave his all to the game, but his body was beginning to “wind down”. Once his basketball career ended Koby thought his need for the game had come to an end until he saw the compassion his daughter had for basketball. He then invested his knowledge for the game into his daughter Gianna “GiGi” Bryant and molded her into what had become the top player in her class. He established the Mamba Sports Academy in in 2016 to help athletes reach their peak potential as players.
Bryant declined to play in the 2000 Olympics because he was getting married in the off-season. He also decided not to play in the world championship. Bryant was originally selected for the FIBA Americas Championship in 2003 but withdrew after undergoing arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgeries.
Kobe Bryant had many NBA awards and accomplishments here are some of them.

Interveiw On Kevin Rios by Pierre Romelus
After my first swim meet, I got to experience how it will be like for our season. I get that I will have to work hard to earn my spot. Yesterday was my first practice meet and it went well I got 2nd place in a 50 freestyle. Also participated in a 100 FR and a 200 Relay Fr, so tome this season will go well, and my goal will be to make it so regional. Our team is looking really and we swimmers that go MTSU and practice there. One our swimmers is Kevin Rios he's good and it's going to take some time to get to the level that he is at.
Kevin says; he says swimming at Lavergne he didn’t get as much of a challenge, so when the opportunity came up he took and wants to be good at it. As much as he loves to swim he will not be swimming in college, because he has another path. He would like to go to the Army. Last year he was good enough to have made it to State where the best swimmers go to compete. He has made a name for himself on the swim team.

A Sit Down With Mrs. Nix
Is the way you define yourself truly who you are? I know we think of ourselves being a certain way or having certain characteristics all the time. Does that really mean that’s who we are really , just cause we say it? Some people call this “capping” or not being “real”. So if people think the opposite who do you listen to? What the person says about themselves, which can possibly be bias? Or do you believe what other people say?
To kinda give you an idea of what I’m talking about me and the team took the liberty of interviewing Mrs. Nix. Why Mrs.Nix? Well I believe Mrs. Nix as being in a position where the whole characterization thing can get pretty janky. Now with that being said I asked Ms. Nix what does she do as an Assistant principal. She replied, “someone who assists students with graduating and being successful in life”. That’s very sweet and seems like shes a helpful person. Ms.Nix also seems like a tough cookie. She doesn’t believe it’s easy for her to be embarrassed, she said when I asked what’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to her here at Lavergne. So she couldn’t even give me an answer. In the Interview we also learned that Ms. Nix favorite thing about her job is meeting ALL the kids that love her outside of her Alphabet. Overall she says to be everything nice.
The train just doesn’t stop there though. We’ve gathered the thoughts of herself from her but what about the people who have thoughts on her as well? To get those we interviewed a cafeteria full of students who were asked all the same thing. “What type of person is Ms. Nix”?. The responses were really split down the middle. One response from a student, Antron was “she can be a pain but she’s cool”. I then asked “how can she be cool and a pain”? They responded “Ms. Nix can sometimes change from when she’s out in the hallways and talking to you”. That can go for not being “real” or it could just be her doing her job but if that’s the case then it should be that way from just talking to her or not. On to another student Tony, he said “Man Mrs.Nix is the G.O.A.T, she’s the reason I’m not expelled right now”. Sounds like Mrs. Nix kept her promise about helping students be able to graduate. Another response from Kiara another student from Lavergne, was “Mrs. Nix can be annoying because she’s too nosy for me”.
Now that you have the views from another person's eye and Mrs. Nix views on her own eye, who do you believe Mrs. Nix to be? Or simply who’s thoughts do you believe to be more accurate? Can we take Mrs. Nix words and believe she’s just this hard working woman who wants the students she’s around to graduate? Or do we take the words of other People? I believe we shouldn’t have to solely base who someone is off just these two things. Try getting to know people more! Especially at the school. You never get out of your comfort zone to talk to all different kinds of people. If Mrs. Nix didn’t enjoy meeting people and you’re not in her alphabet and a bad apple you’d never get a chance to talk to her. Get up and learn about someone for yourself!

Appreciation Letter
Dear Coach Smith,
To start things off let’s just say you’re the coolest teacher around. You’re more like a close friend then anything, from the serious times to the fun times we always have a good time when we’re around you. You’re always there when we need someone to talk to and a shoulder to cry on. Even though you may not know it you’ve made an impact in our high school experience at La Vergne. We just wanted to say Thank You for everything you have done for us, even if it was just you listening to our problems. Many teachers don’t take the time out to actually listen to their students or get to know them but you do.
Sincerely,
Arryon , Ambar , Naiyah and QP.
Appreciation Letter

Dear Mrs. Mangrum, four years ago you came into my life and I didn’t expect to hold you so close to my heart. We started off on a rocky start but that just made us create a bond. You have been there for me more than you can imagine. No matter how hard things get I know I can come to you. Out of all the teachers I've ever had you have helped me gain a sense of sanity. I appreciate all the things you have done for me over the years. I just wanted you to know that you have impacted my life in so many ways. You’re my school mom and that will never change. I enjoy talking to you about my life because you have never judged me. Even when you saw me getting off track you encouraged me to do better. I wouldn’t have made it through the last four years without you. Therefore, I want to say thank you. Even after I graduate, I will continue to update you on my life because you’re my right hand.
Incoming Freshman
By: Ashley Fricks
Dear Incoming Freshman,
You have a lot to look forward to during your 4 years of high school. As a senior and junior you have a lot of expectations your junior and senior year is a big thing. As a senior you must focus more on school because after senior year you graduate and that’s a point of becoming a senior you must stay on your grind and get your stuff together. Graduation will come before you know it, it felt like yesterday I was a freshman now I'm a senior about to graduate and I'm on to college next. If you were to mess around, I would not do it your senior year because how you do is going to be your reflection in college. Also, another thing is when you have events going on at the school make sure you get involved, get hyped all that because the classes below you are looking at you as a good representation. Your senior year is going to be the fastest year of your high school career. Whether you chose to go to college or not make sure your senior year is the best year because Mr. Ash is going to be hard on the seniors because you are giving a good look on the other high people. Senior year you’re going to have fun and some boring times you’re going to have good and bad days but at the end of the day get your grind together and remember your next with graduating whomever reads this I hope you have a good year of senior years and I hope your plans after high school work out for you!

“Aunt Becky” the Scammer?!
Article by: Shenelle Nanthavong
There has been a scandal going around that says Lori Loughlin bribed USC to let her daughters get accepted into the school. According to sources, Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid $500,000 to make it appear that their daughter had been a rower, the indictment states. There is no information that states whether or not her daughters had in on the scandal. It is a low acceptance rate for this college meaning the chances of them getting in would have been little to none with no talent and without high knowledge. Her parents were arrested and are facing heavy charges. Some say their children should not have to suffer for their parents’ mistakes. Is Apple Glitching or is This a Secret Hack?
Article by: Marcio Lopez, and Shenelle Nanthavong
If you’re an Android user, you better be glad you’re not team iPhone! There are rumors going around that Apple has recently found a glitch in their group facetime that was allowing iPhones to answer their own facetime calls without the other person physically doing so themselves. This is a trick people can do to basically “make” the other person answer their call.
You can do this by adding yourself as a contact and then while calling the other person, you add yourself in the call and create a “group facetime” with yourself and the person you want to facetime. Even by pressing the volume up or down button, you may even be able to see their front facing camera. This has become a problem even with MacBook owners with the OS Mojave software installed.
Should users disable their facetime? Will Apple lose consumers with this bug? Will this affect people’s homes where there’s infidelity happening? There’s no telling when this bug will be fixed but Apple claims to be trying their best. Watch who you are around because you never know who can be listening. Disaster in California
Keenaizha, Jason, Jonathan
The Woolsey fire forced evacuations in communities northwest of Los Angeles after it began Thursday afternoon amid warm, dry and windy conditions. The fire is threatening tens of thousands of homes as strong winds cast This blaze just outside of Simi Valley, along the border of Los Angeles, broke out at about 3:30 p.m. and had quadrupled in size by Friday morning as it consumed at least 8,000 acres. The fires burned in a community that was already reeling from a mass shooting that left 12 victims dead Wednesday night at a Thousand Oaks bar. On Friday, the center was an evacuation center for people fleeing the fire. Fall is historically one of the most dangerous times of the year for wildfires in California. Seven of the state's 10-most destructive wildfires occurred in October many fueled by monster winds, including Santa Ana Gusta. Fire officials said wind speeds up to 40 mph were reported. Along with low humidity levels, that made it nearly impossible to get control of the fire perimeter. An increase in wind speeds was expected about dawn, continuing through noon before slowly diminishing Friday afternoon.

Sierra Leone
Jazlin Alexander
Sierra Leone is a small country bursting with potential. Between wealth in natural minerals, a huge harbor, and beautiful landscapes- such as white beaches and rainforests- its young population should be prospering from trade and tourism. But a decade of civil war devastated Sierra Leone in the 1990s, overturning all progress. Ebola spread rapidly highlighting just how many people were living – and dying – without clean water, decent toilets or good hygiene. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives.
America began making change happen in Sierra Leone in 2015 as part of our work in Africa. The conditions left by both the conflict and Ebola presented many new challenges. But, thanks to the support of citizens, the project has already made a difference.
We’re addressing the reasons why some people, especially in the most remote communities, are excluded from services. And we're building up their knowledge and confidence to work together and assert their rights. The Government has officially recognized people’s right to water, which is a great start. We’re supporting them to fulfil this and allocate the resources needed to reach everyone – and to acknowledge that decent toilets and good hygiene are equally crucial. We’re also helping to build strong institutions that will provide lasting services, with solid policies, tested programs and clear plans.
